D&C 28:13 But behold, I say unto you that little children are redeemed from the foundation of the world, through mine Only Begotten; wherefore they can not sin, for power is not given unto Satan to Tempt little children, until they begin to become accountable before me; for it is given unto them even as I will, according to mine own pleasure, that great things may be required at the hand of their fathers.
D&C 17:20 No one can be received into the church of
Christ unless he has arrived unto the years of accountability before God, and
is capable of repentance.
Do Little Children Need Baptism?
While children (under 8 years old) may be capable of doing wrong, even committing crimes, it is important to understand how God's word relates to this.
God does not give Satan power to tempt children. Now, children can do things that are wrong, even punishable by law. The difference is this: actions performed by children are based on their physiological, psychological, social, and environmental existence only. They are not influenced (tempted) by Satan, and are therefore not capable of repenting from those actions.
After 8 years old, we're given that they "begin" to become accountable, therefore they begin to be tempted. To be able to choose wrong, they must have to have the capability to choose "right. Just as we gain knowledge little by little, children gain the ability to "judge" or "reason" little by little.
In other words, Satan can't overwhelm them with every trick in his bag as soon as the 8th birthday cake candles are blown out, because we're told that we won't be tempted above that which we are able to bear. This is an eternal principle.
Baptism
is not required for salvation of little children, under the age of
accountability.
Do you have to
know the 'Whole Word' before Christ wants you to come to Him?
Alma 16:138 … Blessed is he
that believeth in the word of God, and is baptized without stubbornness of
heart; yea, without being brought to know the word, or even compelled to
know, before they will believe.
The answer to the question above, is that God's word invites those who have not been baptized, to do so by simply the desire to believe. Having a full knowledge prior to being baptized by water is not required.
In
other words, a spontaneous response to covenant with God is acceptable to
Him. Many times through history,
thousands were baptized in single days, because of the joy that came when
hearing the Word.
A time should exist, however, between the baptism by water and the
baptism by the Holy Ghost (laying on of hands) to have the Gospel explained:
D&C 17:18 The duty of members after they are received
by baptism: The elders or priests are
to have a sufficient time to expound all things concerning the church of Christ
to their understanding, previous to their partaking of the sacrament, and being
confirmed by the laying of the hands of the elders, so that all things may be
done in order.
Alma 3:57 Behold, he
sendeth an invitation unto all men; for the arms of mercy are extended towards
them, and he saith, Repent, and I will receive you;
Alma 3:108 I speak by way
of command unto you that belong to the church; and unto those who do not belong
to the church, I speak by way of invitation, saying, Come, and be baptized unto
repentance, that ye also may be partakers of the fruit of the tree of life.
Alma 5:27 Yea, come and
go forth, and shew unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your
sins, and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and
witness it unto him this day, by going into the waters of baptism;

Our part of the entire plan salvation of salvation could be summed up in the word "willingness. " Do we have a "willingness" to believe? Do we have a "willingness" to reconcile our life to the will of God? Do we have a "willingness" to be baptized? Do we have a "willingness" to keep the commandments? If so, then be willing to come unto Christ, according to his plan of salvation, which is set forth in His scriptures, and be baptized unto Him.
